Homeschool Day 2/18

 Kindergartener

We started a new science curriculum.  I ordered it from Rainbow Resource: https://www.rainbowresource.com/category/4839/Summers-Lab.html

I bought the Teacher's Guide and the Lab Workbook.  We started the Amphibian unit study today and he loved it.  He has been begging to do more science, so I bought this curriculum several weeks ago.  I'm very happy with it.  It looks like something he will really enjoy.

You need the DK Children's Encyclopedia to go with the curriculum.  I ordered it from Amazon, but because of the snow storm, it's not here yet.

Here's what he did today:

  • Summer's Lab Amphibians
  • Dragonbox's Numbers app (he counted up to 100 for the first time - he was very proud of himself)
  • Teach Your Monster to Read
  • Paw Patrol Mad Libs
13 Year-old
  • Algebra Honors Page - we did this together on the dry erase board
  • Language Lessons for the Secondary Child
  • Free reading from her book crate
  • She read To Kill a Mockingbird - I read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
  • US States puzzle
  • Apologia Anatomy & Physiology
15 Year-old
  • Algebra Honors Page - yeah, we threw in the towel.  This was her last lesson in solving algebraic equations anyway.  We did two of the problems together and then stopped.  I had to take ibuprofen after that page
  • Language Lessons for the High School Student - writing a descriptive essay
  • Huckleberry Finn - we did a discussion on the book, because she is almost finished
  • German together
  • Apologia Biology Lab failure - we failed to grow mold for our lab, so we weren't able to complete the lab.  We just looked at mold under the microscope a few weeks ago, so we were ok with it
  • Music Appreciation: She read the background information and listened to the hymn "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot."  I almost fell onto the floor when she told me she had never heard that song before. We really need to make sure we are imparting some kind of knowledge about our own past and culture onto our kids.  Like I said a few weeks ago, I am so glad I decided to do folk songs/hymns with the kids.
