Homeschool Day 6/2

 2nd Grader

  • Math
    • We played addition games with the lawn dice
  • Reading/Language Arts
    • All About Spelling - this is going really well.  I'm glad we started this
    • He read an Easy Reader book to me (from the library)
  • Science - Microscope Lab
    • We went to the park and collected moss, plants and a pillbug (isopod/roly poly/woodlice)
    • We brought everything back and looked at it all through a 3D microscope

These camera images are terrible, but here is a tiny flower we viewed through the 3D microscope.

Moss under the 3D microscope

10th Grader
  • Bible reading (1 Kings)
  • We did some of our Bookshark reading
  • Biology - Microscope Lab
    • We spent at least 2 hours on this
    • We collected pond water and made several slides for the microscope
    • I stained one of the slides with blue dye to make it easier to see the protozoans
    • We also looked at prepared slides of
      • Euglena
      • Amoeba
      • Volvox with daughter colonies
    • I added the pond water to a vase that has flowers and water in it.  Next week, I'm going to check the vase water and see if anything propagated over the weekend

Also a terrible picture, but this is a prepared slide of Euglena (stained).  It is next to impossible to get a good picture of what you see under a microscope without the camera attachment.
  • Ballet (outsourced)
We are taking it easy on school lately, because we have a number of activities like ballet recital, cub scouts camp, cub scouts crossover, vacation Bible school, etc.  School will probably be impossible next week, so we may just do our Sonlight/Bookshark reading and that's it.
